Me and my writing
I wasn’t going to put this on here, because this site was meant to give those readers who wanted it, more info on the background of Rough Surrender, or maybe even to entice some to read the story. But a friend who read the story early on said she loved to hear about authors. So here I go. A little bit about me.
I write very kinky stories that often embrace BDSM because the Dominance and submission side of it fascinates me. Bondage and impact play are pretty enticing too. But I’m not just kinky. I have a brain (strangely) and I also love my history. This book allowed me to put two of my favorites together.
The research began with a friend, Nerine Dorman, suggesting I look into the Belle Époque era of history. She’s good at planting ideas in my brain, and since Rough Surrender ended up in her editorial lap, I guess it paid off.
From Belle Époque, I followed links, expanded my scope, and found out about the spanking literature that spawned across Europe, and about the lesbian movement, and I happened across an article about Baron Empain’s palace in that suburb of Cairo, Heliopolis. You see Nerine lives in Africa and loves her African history too.
The Baron just blew my little mind. His awesome ‘palace’ simply had to feature in my story. And then I found out about how he and his companies built Heliopolis. There is so much information about this time on the internet. Somehow I found out about the Grand Semaine de L’aviation – the great week of aviation meeting that was the first of its kind on the African continent. This was bang, smack in the middle of some wonderful history in 1910. I dug and dug and in crevices of the net, found more. The Baroness de Laroche was at that meeting too. First woman to get a pilot’s licence. What a goldmine for a story.
I adore writing strong women as submissives. Contrary to what some believe, sexual submission does not mean you are a doormat. So I invented a woman who is a pilot—Faith Evard.
Oh dear, I digressed. This was about me…
You can see how much I enjoyed the research, and that too is a part of me. Writing can be such fun.
I have a family, I have a husband, I have kids, and sometimes I manage to venture out of my writing cave to do other stuff. There. That's me.
I've been writing erotic since the last half of 2010 when I received a contract from Loose Id. I'm still doing it, writing. :D
My second story ever, Iron Dominance, was awarded Best Erotic Steampunk of 2011 by The Romance Reviews.
